When you need an NParks event venue booking
NParks requires an event venue booking if your event involves ticket admission, setup such as tentage or sound equipment, or more than 15 participants. Submit the application at least one calendar month before the event date. Specific venues may have different lead times; for example, HortPark states a two-month lead time for venue bookings.

Event booking is different from a BBQ pit reservation
A BBQ pit reservation is a separate process for using designated barbecue facilities. Reserving a pit does not give permission to set up equipment, tentage or organised activities beyond the pit area. Compare your plans with NParks’ booking triggers above and confirm any additional use of the space with the venue. A BBQ reservation should not be treated as approval for a separate event setup.
Organised group activities in nature areas
If your event is an organised walk or tour with more than 30 participants in specified nature areas, a separate organised group activity permit applies. This is for nature-focused guided activities, not a general birthday party rule. See NParks organised group activity permit for the specific scope.
Not all parks allow the same equipment
Some parks explicitly require prior approval for any setup, structure or equipment. Jurong Lake Gardens, for example, states that any setup, structure or equipment needs prior approval through its own permit application. Check the specific park's booking page rather than assuming the main NParks rules cover every venue.

A booking does not mean you can set up an inflatable
An approved NParks event booking confirms use of the venue for your event. It does not automatically mean that all types of equipment are permitted. If you plan to bring a bouncy castle, ball pit or other large rental equipment, ask NParks specifically about that equipment type when you apply. The approval may have conditions about the setup area, ground protection, operating hours and collection timing.
Confirm who is submitting the venue application; an equipment quotation does not replace the venue’s approval. If you are considering rental equipment for a park event, get venue approval first, then include the venue details and any conditions when you request a quotation.
Organiser worksheet: what to check before booking
- Venue. Which park and which specific area? Is it a bookable event space or an open lawn?
- Access. How will delivery vehicles reach the setup area? Is there a loading bay, vehicle gate or path restriction?
- Setup area. What are the ground surface and dimensions? Is the ground flat, grass, concrete or uneven?
- Power. Is there a power point accessible at the setup location? If not, you may need a generator, which itself may require approval.
- Collection. What time must everything be cleared? Is there a different exit route from the delivery route?
- Wet weather. Is there a covered alternative nearby? If rain forces a move, is the backup space already booked?
- Equipment permission. Have you specifically asked NParks whether the equipment you plan to bring is allowed at that venue?
For rental equipment options that might work in a park setting, see the bouncy castle catalogue for dimensions and the venue preparation guide for general delivery and setup questions.
