Void Deck Birthday Parties in Singapore

What to confirm with your Town Council before booking rental equipment for a void deck event.

Town Councils manage void decks, not HDB directly

HDB confirms that Town Councils manage the common property in HDB estates, including void decks. If you want to use a void deck for a birthday party, the first step is to check with the Town Council responsible for that block, not with HDB.

Find your Town Council

LifeSG has a facilities search supported by Town Councils where you can look up available facilities by purpose, location and date. This may help you identify whether the void deck or common area near you accepts event bookings, and which Town Council manages it.

Do not assume all Town Councils allow birthday parties

Different Town Councils have different rules about what events are allowed in void decks and common areas. Some may allow birthday celebrations; others may restrict void deck use to specific purposes. There is no universal rule on fees, allowed hours, sound levels, permitted equipment or maximum group sizes across all Town Councils. Check with the specific council for your block.

Examples published by three Town Councils

These examples were checked on 19 October 2026; amounts are in Singapore dollars. Eligibility, the particular facility and approval still matter; check the linked council page before applying. The space charge is separate from any equipment rental quotation.

A published rate or booking window does not reserve your date or approve a bouncy castle, live-food station or sound system. Include your proposed equipment in the application and get the relevant confirmation before committing to rentals.

Enquiry versus approval

Making an enquiry with your Town Council is not the same as receiving approval. Do not book rental equipment or hire vendors based on an enquiry alone. Wait until you have written confirmation of the approved date, time and conditions before committing to bookings. If the council attaches conditions (e.g. no amplified music after a certain hour, no equipment on the grass verge, no obstructing the walkway), share those conditions with your vendors.

Questions to confirm with your Town Council

  • Is the void deck available for a birthday party on your date and time? Not all slots or purposes may be accepted.
  • What is the approved footprint? How much of the void deck can you use? Can you tape off an area?
  • Is there a power point? If not, is a generator allowed? What are the noise restrictions?
  • Delivery and pickup. Can a delivery lorry access the void deck directly? Is there a loading time restriction?
  • Rubbish and reinstatement. Who cleans up after the event? Do you need to restore the area to its original state?
  • Are there any restricted activities? For example, open flames, loud music, setting up on grass areas.
  • Is there a fee or deposit? Some councils charge a booking or cleaning deposit.

Once you have approval, plan the space

With the approved dimensions and conditions in hand, you can decide what rental items fit. The actual ceiling height and column spacing can constrain the layout. Measure the actual clear height and open area before choosing items.

For compact equipment options, see the small venue bouncy castle and ball pit guide. For tables and chairs, see the furniture guide. The venue preparation guide covers general delivery and setup questions that apply to any venue type.

When you send your rental enquiry, include the Town Council's confirmed conditions alongside your guest count, date and preferred items. This lets the vendor quote accurately rather than discovering restrictions on delivery day.
